Course Overview

This course is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge required to enter and work in confined spaces in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.

This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles undertaking work in confined spaces, , Safety personnel, Risk and mine managers, Telecommunications and cable installation personnel, Lift operators and installers, Maintenance personnel and Transport industry workers.

Target

Workers who will be entering and working in confined space scenarios in both civil and infrastructure sectors.

Entry Requirements

Participants require sufficient literacy and numeracy levels to read and interpret policies and procedures, safety data sheets and sample permits.

This course requires good English language / literacy.  If you believe you may have some challenges with the English language or literacy, please contact us on (02) 9733 3600 and we will assess, to the best of our ability, whether you have the appropriate level to take the course.  Please see the PRE-ENROLMENT INFORMATION tab for further information on the Language / Literacy assessment process.

Participants will need the physical ability to perform some strenuous activities in the practical exercises.

Assessment

Assessment is a combination of written questions/answers and practical demonstrations.

Learning Outcomes

  • comply with site and equipment safety requirements
  • comply with the entry and exit procedures, risks and regulations
  • types of air contaminants and toxic gases
  • identifying the limitations of breathing apparatus
  • identifying equipment types, characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations
  • comply with site isolation and site control responsibilities and authorities
  • locations of safety data sheets (SDS) information and application
  • using confined space and Industry terminology

On Completion

Upon successful completion of training, participants will be issued with a Statement of attainment for RIIWHS202 Enter and work in confined spaces.
