TLILIC0012 – Licence to Operate a Vehicle Loading Crane (10m tonnes and above) (CV)

Professional Vehicle Loading Crane Training Course in Sydney

Course Overview

This course is designed for participants to obtain the necessary skills to operate a Vehicle Loading Crane with a capacity of 10 metre tonnes or more, mounted on a vehicle for the principle purpose of loading and unloading such a vehicle.

Acquired skills will include the application of load estimation and slinging techniques to move a load, as prescribed by the National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work.


5 Days (4 days for training and 1 day for WorkCover Assessment)


Individuals who would like to gain employment operating a Vehicle Loading Crane in the civil, construction, infrastructure or resources industries.

Entry Requirements

Preference that all participants enrolled in our Sydney program already have their Dogging Licence (DG) as the knowledge is significantly helpful when obtaining your CV crane training and licence but it is not mandatory.

Minimum age 18 years
Basic ability in mathematics for formulas and load chart calculations
Good command of the English Language
Must have necessary health and fitness to carry out duties safely


The assessment is conducted using a combination of realistic workplace tasks including calculations of loads and determination of lifting equipment, knowledge tests and practical observations.

Learning Outcomes

Calculate safe working loads
Inspect equipment & identify faulty items
Set up and operation of crane
Correctly care for & store lifting equipment
Inspect crane component parts including sheaves, ropes, drums, hooks and anchorage
Assess load mass
Conduct pre-operational checks
Demonstrate all signals (hand and whistle) and use of walkie talkie / 2 way radio
Use of crane charts

On Completion of Our Crane Operator Training Course

Upon successful completion, participants will be:

Awarded with a Statement of Attainment for TLILIC0012 – Licence to Operate a Vehicle Loading Crane and eligible to apply to WorkCover for their (CV) Vehicle Loading Crane Licence.  This is a National High Risk Work (HRW) Licence. The application must be made within sixty (60) days at a Post Office. You will be required to provide one hundred (100) points of identification (ID) plus a passport sized photo with your application.

Participant Requirements

Wear steel cap boots, a hard hat, safety glasses, long pants and hi visibility shirt/vest. You will also need wet weather gear if required.

Language & Literacy

This course requires good English language / literacy.  If you believe you may have some challenges with the English language or literacy, please contact us on 1300 522 229 and we will assess, to the best of our ability, whether you have the appropriate level to take the course.  This assessment will include a phone interview and if required, a visit to our Head Office in Ingleburn to complete a Language and Literacy written assessment.  Based on the outcome of this assessment we will advise if you can continue to enrol in this course or pathway you to a local TAFE or Community College to enrol into an appropriate course to improve your English language / literacy.
